South Indian-Style Macaroni and Cheese Oven Recipe



Ingredients needed:

* 8 ounces of dried macaroni
* 2 cups of frozen peas
* 1/2 cup of soft bread crumbs
* 1/4 cup of freshly grated Asiago cheese
* 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
* 1/2 teaspoon of salt
* 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala
* 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper
* 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
* 1/4 teaspoon of ground turmeric
* 3 tablespoons of butter
* 1 teaspoon of garlic paste
* 1/2 teaspoon of grated fresh ginger
* 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
* 3 cups of milk
* 2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Preparation steps:

* Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Place peas in a colander. Drain macaroni over peas in colander.
* In a small bowl, combine bread crumbs, Asiago cheese, and paprika; set aside. In another small bowl, stir together salt, garam masala, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and turmeric; set aside.
* In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic paste and ginger; cook and stir for 1 minute. Add salt-spice mixture; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Stir in flour. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir until slightly thickened and bubbly. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted. Stir in cooked macaroni and peas.
* Transfer mixture to a 2-quart rectangular baking dish. Sprinkle with bread crumb mixture. Bake for 30 minutes or until mixture is bubbly and crumbs are golden.
